I've decided for my essay question to be "How does the rate at which new media technology evolving affect consumers?"
I will (hopefully) be looking specifically at phones and other handheld devices such as mp3 players (iPod in particular) and the iPad.

VARK (Visual Aural Read/Write Kinaesthetic)
VARK is a resource that provides users with the ability to map out their learning styles, sorting them into the four categories of Visual, Aural, Read/Write and Kinaesthetic. The results I got from completing the provided questionnaire are:
Visual: 4
Aural: 7
Read/Write: 5
Kinaesthetic: 9
This shows that my strongest method of learning is kinaesthetic, which means I preference learning through doing; experience and practice. Some more examples of kinaesthetic learning could be in laboratories, field trips, through trial and error, and lecturers who give real life examples. I agree partly with these results, however I think that visual and aural should probably be swapped, and read/write perhaps a little higher. I think that my strongest suit would indeed be kinaesthetic as I like to experiment with things and learn how they work as suggested - through trial and error. As long as it's a concept I can grasp or a subject that keeps my attention I believe that I could adapt to whichever is most readily available. One thing I noticed about the questions on the questionnaire is that I would give different answers depending on the situation. For example I might do one thing if it was for a group of friends, and something different if it was for people I had never met before. I know that it's only a guideline of sorts, but I felt it was worth noting.
SWOT Analysis
A SWOT analysis is a method used to identify the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats of a business of person. In this case; myself. The desired result is to map out what I'm good at and what can be improved and worked on over time.

Learning Line
A learning line is essentially a line which shows all your sources of education throughout your lifetime. The older you are, the longer the line will typically be.

Some skills I have acquired through this line are: reading, writing, typing (touch typing), tidying, cleaning, organising, communications (verbal and otherwise) and driving.

The first of many...
I have a blog! Finally. How useful. Now people can read all about me and what I get up to with my work, and free time, if this is going to be anything like I imagined it would. That is to say that it will primarily be filled up with stuff related to the course I am doing at university but there will be the occasional rant about whatever is annoying me at the time, as well as possible video game/movie reviews to further my 'creative writing' skills.
In short (not that the above was much to read in the first place); welcome to my blog, try not to get too bored and hopefully enjoy your stay!
